EFT for Post Traumatic Stress
I have formed my own opinion when it comes to Post Traumatic Stress (PTS) and Negative Emotions. I think the key here is to focus on the word "Traumatic", as the word suggests it is related to Trauma.
What I have seen during the time I have been performing EFT is that almost everyone without question comes to me after having suffered a traumatic experience. However from the outside I guess one could say that certain traumatic experiences are worse than others: thus there must be different degrees of trauma.
Yes I agree from that perspective this would be a correct assumption; its obvious that a traumatic experience such as Rape, Child Abuse or someone suffering trauma from War would exist high on a scale (if there were such a scale).
However I want to suggest another angle that could be approached. Without minimizing such traumatic experiences such as rape or war (and any other severe trauma) I want you to think from an EFT perspective and see Post Traumatic Stress from my point of view.
When individuals come to see me there is no need to know prior to the session why they are seeking help; as from an EFT Perspective there is no difference in my approach. I use the same approach when helping someone overcome the negative emotions from rape, child abuse, war, divorce, or even helping someone overcome the emotions left behind from childhood because they didn't get a lolly pop from mummy and for the past 50 years they have felt worthless.
I discovered long ago that no matter what the issue is everyone brings along with them an element of trauma whether that trauma is real, perceived or otherwise.
Trauma whether real, perceived or otherwise
I realized a long time ago that whether someone has had actual trauma from an actual experience or from a made up experience it is dealt with in EXACTLY the same way. Thus all trauma must be real as all trauma made up or otherwise is released with EFT in exactly the same way.
Think about someone being afraid of spiders, I am not talking about a healthy fear, most of us don't want spiders crawling on us and will quickly brush them off. But someone with an irrational fear may only need to imagine a box on the floor contains a spider and they will jump over you to get out of that room. But the spider isn't real, so why are they jumping out of their skin.
Trauma that is real, perceived other otherwise is trauma just the same. In the example above this person may have at one point in their life (usually as a child) formed a connection with a spider and had experienced a negative emotion that under the right conditions caused almost identical chemical reactions in the body as occurs when someone suffers from sever trauma such as rape.
My own conclusions may not make good science and you may not agree with me, however what I have come to realize is that all clients have suffered from or are suffering from the effects of trauma. To me there cannot be any other explanation, I treat all individuals the same and use exactly the same techniques.
Of course I do use different approaches from client to client. It's obvious that every person on the planet has had their own set of individual experiences and as such each person that comes to me is given that courtesy and respect. I would be a complete moron if I didn't respect and treat every person individually.
But the way I CARE for each person in exactly the SAME. Each person receives the same level of care because they are suffering from trauma and this suffering is real to them and if it is real to them then IT IS REAL and EFT can help to release it.
EFT for Severe Trauma
Notwithstanding what I have mentioned above; I am aware of the need to treat each individual with care when in comes to Severe Trauma. I have helped many individuals overcome the stuckness of severe trauma and am extremely competent and confident with the results you will receive.
Somewhere in the above message you may have thought that I might have minimized PTS (or PTSD), however I would like to point out that it wasn't my intention. I just want this to be clear (I have had a couple of people mention points to me) I completely understand and am aware that different levels of trauma exist, and if you wanted to create a scale there is certainly some really nasty traumatic experiences that would top that list with varying degrees from there. Please be aware that all Trauma is treated the same way, EFT is a simple process and when done with confidence and competence the results are extraordinary.
I have helped many individuals who have gone through severe trauma that might exist at the top of the chart if we wanted to create a scale, from childhood trauma, child sexual abuse, rape, domestic violence, death of loved ones, abandonment, effects of war or similar environments, and these are just some that come to mind.
